The Whitechapel Homeless Centre which will be the festival’s chosen charity partner for this coming April’s event in Sefton Park, has recently championed the high profile No Second Night Out campaign, which aims to raise awareness about rough sleeping and has committed that no individual arriving on the streets of Liverpool for the first time, will sleep out for more than one night.
The Centre, which is located on Langsdale Street, off Shaw Street Everton, operates as an enablement hub, offering breakfast and washing facilities for the city’s homeless and distributing donated clothing, toiletries and food. While in the centre, service users are able to receive mental health and substance misuse support, access medical care and meet with the charity’s housing and welfare rights advisor, as well as engage in activity sessions, designed to build confidence, self-esteem, develop skills and independence.
The Whitechapel Homeless Centre has recently opened a flagship charity shop on Allerton Road where donated items which aren’t directly of use to service users are sold to raise funds – these include clothing, books and household goods.
The charity will have a pop-up shop at the Spring festival, which runs during the weekend of April 23rd and 24th, where they will be fundraising and selling quality clothes and handbags that have been donated to their Allerton Road shop.
They will also be looking for volunteers who would be prepared to give some of their spare time to help with initiatives around the city.
Festival visitors are being asked to donate items to the charity, which they can bring to Sefton Park during the event weekend, and drop off at the charity’s collection point located near the main entrance – items can include:
– Non perishable food items
– Unopened toiletries
– Clothing for services users e.g. tracksuits, trainers and waterproofs
– General clothing new or in excellent condition
– New unused boxer shorts and socks
